If you ask anybody who isn’t from Wales which sport this country is associated with the most, nine times out of ten the answer would be rugby. It is after all still the most popular sport in the heartlands of South and West Wales and has a firm footing throughout Mid and North Wales too, thanks partly to the success of the men’s national team. There are more than 200 senior clubs across the Principality and the vast majority of these have junior teams covering most age groups and youth teams as well. Women’s rugby has increased enormously in popularity in recent years and we can thank an increase in television coverage as the main reason for this.
